If you have a fire safety question, the answer may be below in our frequently asked questions list.
If not, feel free to call us for more information.

Why do my extinguishers need to be inspected?

National fire codes, enforced by your local fire district, require that certified technicians inspect all fire extinguishers. This is done to ensure that if and when an extinguisher is needed, it works properly and safely. [top]

How often do my fire extinguishers need to be inspected?

Extinguishers need general service at least once a year. If an extinguisher has been used or lost pressure (the dial is not in the green), it needs immediate service. Every 6 years, an extinguisher must be taken apart, examined and recharged. Every 12 years, extinguishers must be hydro tested to make sure the bottle is still serviceable and holds pressure. AAA technicians can provide all of these services. [top]

Who keeps track of when my extinguishers need to be checked?

It is the owners responsibility to ensure that his fire equipment is checked in a timely fashion. When you work with AAA Fire & Safety, we assist you by keeping a computer record of each inspection we perform. When it is time for your next inspection we will call you or simply come out to do the inspection. [top]

Will the same technician service my equipment each year?

Our employee turnover is very, very low, so most often, the same technician services the same customers year after year. [top]

Where can I find information on specific fire code requirements?

You may contact AAA Fire & Safety or your local fire department for current fire code requirements. [top]

Does AAA service both commercial and residential customers?

We service commercial sites. However, the general public may bring their fire extinguishers to our location for service. [top]

Will I receive a “report” of my inspection?

Your current inspection information is shown on a tag attached to your extinguisher. A date punched on the tag of 4/09 means the extinguisher is certified until 4/10. Fire alarms and sprinkler systems, in addition to having a tag, require a report be filed with the local fire department. [top]

How often are extinguishers used on fires?

AAA recharges over 5,000 extinguishers a year; our 30 technicians report that over 80% are used to put out a fire. [top]

Where can my group or family receive training on how to use an extinguisher?

AAA offers regular on-site training on how to use a fire extinguisher. Fires can double in size in 10 seconds, so you must be able to act quickly and effectively when using an extinguisher. We will educate you and up to 12 people via DVD and hands-on training. Please contact AAA Fire & Safety for more information. [top]
